[Commission] Now You See It

“Grah, are you sure this place is safe? Not to be rude or anything, sir but we have already lost more than a ton of gold over the last month. No traces, it just vanished. ” questioned one guard, dragging yet another heavy shipment of pure gold across the floor. The chief of security could only display a frustrated expression as he marvelled at their newest state-of-the-art vault, its exorbitant cost almost driving to the bank to its bankruptcy.

 “Look, I’m fairly certain this time it will be safe. This baby is made of reinforced titanium. Titan cameras overlook the entrance of the vault. The inside is completely pitch black. If this isn’t safe enough, I have no idea what is.” The chief proclaimed, as he swung the gigantic heavy door open.  “I don’t know about you guys, but I’m pretty sure those masked criminals can never break into this safe. I guarantee it.” He then directed the guards into the vault, telling them the where to place the assets.

 A pair of yellow luminous eyes watched through the window, face beamed with determination. He had been eavesdropping on their conversation all the time. If only they had the brains to actually install cameras inside the vault, they would actually know who had been raiding their treasury for the entire month. The same hoarse voice spoke again, claiming with pride that the safe is indestructible and impervious. Such arrogance, thought the beast, would be their downfall. The russet brown creature went back into concealment, waiting for the people return back to their homes before committing another heist.

 Moonlight shown down brightly from the skies as the creature lied down on the rooftops of the building. As he heard the last pair of footsteps walking away from the bank, he knew that it was time for him to strike. The plan was simple. Get in. Get the gold. Get out. Smiling to himself, he quickly thought the inside of the vault, which he managed to catch a glimpse earlier during whilst scouting. He felt a large surge of energy flow through him as his surroundings swiftly changed from the bright night sky to complete darkness. He was inside the vault.

 With his yellow eyes acting as light source, he scanned around his surroundings for the whereabouts of the loot. He caught a glimmer of light soon, the same glimmer that his species loved; he knew that he had hit the jackpot.  He immediately grabbed a large bag of gold coins with his front legs, smirking to himself as he focused on his warm and cosy cave. The amber glow in his eyes intensified, as he returned back to his home along with his plunder of the night.

 He found his gift of teleportation more of a blessing than a curse, whereas many of his kind shunned him as he lacked a fire-breathing power. However, going from one place to another within an instant enabled him to accomplish much more. After all, his aggressors would find themselves freefalling from the skies should they be foolish enough to attack him. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t work against other winged serpents who can easily glide their way back safely on land.

Yawning to himself, he dropped the sack of treasure on his caverns, which he carefully accumulated for years. He could return for seconds, but overusing his ability would results in vertigo and physical exhaustion. Sides, he was contented with the amount of gold…
